Teen After School Programs

During the academic year, Diablo offers After School Teen Programs. Students may apply to their high schools to receive high school academic credit for these classes. These classes offer students an opportunity to meet with our glass community in Diablo’s warm environment. This program offers practice and deeper knowledge for the experienced teen, while also offering an introduction to glass for the novice.

Everyone is welcome to share this exciting experience with a wonderful group of similar-aged classmates. That means a lot of fun, learning and new friends, in our world of glass, fire and passion.

Here are just a few reasons to sign up:

GLASS BLOWING

Teen After School: Beginner Glass Blowing (12 Wk)
Cost: $1000

Class size limit: 9
In this 12-week program, teens will focus on building their skills and understanding of hot glass. This is a great course for a teen that has taken Diablo’s Teen Camp or a first time student. Diablo’s experienced instructors will guide teens through a series of demonstrations and hands-on exercises to build their understanding of the medium. In the first quarter, students will learn the basic skills of gathering, blowing, and tool handling. In the second quarter, students will concentrate their skills on making a set of matching drinking glass. In the final quarter, students will be given the chance to move into the sculptural world, beginning with a variety of decorative bit techniques on larger vessels. A series of group projects will occur throughout the 12 weeks. From there we will see where their imagination takes them.

Teen After School: Intermediate Glass Blowing (12 Wk)
Cost: $1000

Class size limit: 9
Teens will keep the momentum going with the second level of After School Glass Blowing classes. Diablo’s experienced instructors will pick up where the last course left off with complex color techniques and optic molds. Students will have more time to work on their own pieces and will design class demos and projects. The final weeks of the course will be dedicated to blowing bigger, thinner, and faster. As glass pieces become more complex, students will become problem solvers, forced to define the steps they must take to accomplish their ideas. Their artistic development will be embodied in their final pieces, which will be reviewed by their teacher and a guest critic, at the end of the course.
