Shelia Checkoway

Sheila Checkoway has worked in hot glass for more than 10 years beginning with hot shop sand-casting, then moving to the flameshop where she enjoys the intricacy of the torch and glass beads. Mentors Mark Kobasz and Cynthia Liebler Saari influenced her development in glass, and she continues flame working classes at Snowfarm in Williamsburg MA and with various artists. Sheila teaches beginner beadmaking classes at Diablo – she delights in showing novices the thrill of the flame and the control one can gain.

Sheila’s aesthetic leans to organic colors, techniques and designs - her landscape beads are inspired by her world travels and active imagination. She can be found several days a week in the Diablo flameshop, creating her
unique beads and experimenting with various techniques. Sheila focuses on selling her beads to creative jewelry artists worldwide. Her work is available for sale at northeast bead shows each year and online at

Sheila is a member of ISGB International Society

of Glass Beadmakers – Boston Chapter, is on the board of Beadesigners International, and is a Self-Representing Artist.
