Matthew Cronin

Matthew Cronin is a native of Marblehead, Massachusetts. He attended the University of Hartford where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts, focusing in sculpture and painting, with a minor in art history. Upon entering school, painting was his passion, but as he explored the different mediums of sculpture he fell in love with glass.

Glass quickly became a large part of Matt's life, and he has spent the last ten years of his life working in multiple shops and schools in both Massachusetts and Connecticut. He has worked in many different styles from large loose organic vessels with a sculptural overtone, to tight Venetian techniques, which he learned from Elio Quarisa. At the present time, he is exploring larger organic vessels with a textural element that he receives by applying color frits. He doesn't let the frits melt in all of the way, which leaves the texture of the unmelted color and large loose bits of hot glass running down the side of a piece, these are then tweaked appropriately depending on the composition.
